¿TRICK OR TREAT?

What does “trick or treat” mean?

On Halloween, many people say “trick or treat,” which means, “Give me candy or I’ll play tricks on you.” But the Bible teaches us not to cause harm or use fear for fun.

Ephesians 5:11 “And have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather expose them.”

What the Bible says for us: God is light, not darkness. The Bible says that Jesus is the light of the world (John 8:12).

That means we don’t need to disguise ourselves with fear, because with Jesus we live in the light. We don’t need threats or deception. “Trick or treat” teaches us to get things through fear or deception.

But the Word of God says, “Repay no one evil for evil” (Romans 12:17). We can celebrate in another way. Instead of trick-or-treating, we can share candy, smiles, and God's Word. This way, we show Jesus' love, not fear. "I don't trick or treat. I choose Jesus, who is the light and always watches over me."

WHY DID GOD GIVE THE 10 COMMANDMENTS?

1. Because he loves us

4. To help us live in peace

If we all follow the commandments—we do not lie, we do not steal, we do not harm—we can live in harmony and peace with others.

5. Because we are his people

God gave the Ten Commandments to Moses on Mount Sinai so that the people of Israel would know how to live as God's people. And they remain valid for everyone today.
